Kindergarten 2022-23
Highlights from last week: Wow! We had another week. Jill Sheeley joined us for storytelling with her beloved dog Fraser. We used the real pumpkins in the room to make pumpkin muffins. We had a picnic lunch in November! Our Veterans Day celebration was extra special this year with music from Caty and Max, and push ups with a veteran in the K room! Plus…look who showed up in the hoop in the gym!
Literacy: Thanksgiving books are coming home! This is our way of integrating Social Studies with Reading. We have many rich discussions in class on Thanksgiving topics. In reading we are practicing decoding with CVC (vowel – consonant – vowel) words, and we’re also cementing snap words taught so far by playing games with them.
In writing we learned how to write 2 word labels by adding a snap word to the label, for example a K might write “my boat” instead of just “boat”. We wrote letters to the Veterans, and we are poised to start learning about/writing sentences on Monday!!! This is a HUGE step for them.
Math: We’re still finishing up the 2D Geometry Unit. We used leaves to make some fun pictures that will come home soon.
Wellness: Lily joined us Tuesday to work on the “Using Your Words” tool.
Gratitude: Thank you Jill Sheeley for telling us stories and teaching us about being a writer. Thank you local Veterans for presenting to us about your experiences keeping our country safe. Thank you Caty and Max for the beautiful rendition of “America the beautiful” at our Veterans Day celebration. Thank you Daniele and Ali for helping us do so many fun things in school!
